I am a big fan of Nagasaki. It is an excellent, full featured chess program. It plays at several different levels, and is programmable -- the program is very "play for fun".
If you are looking for something a lot less flashy, there is Xboard/winboard. This is a program that uses different chess engines for playing -- these engines can be extremely powerful. Thefree game downloads vista bottom line is this is NOT a "play for fun program".
There are of course a lot of also ran programs, but these are two that I use the most.

Yes theres a thing called the internet and in the internet you will find a great thing called Google. Search you quest there and google may grant your wish.
