play sneezeWhy do the dogs sneeze when they play?

Whenever our dogs play together (mini doxies), they will both frequently take breaks to have sneezing fits and then continue. I was just curious if anybody knew why.
This behavior is not common to most dogs, but some do use a "play sneeze" gestuplay sneezere to show excitement and/or to indicate that they'd like to play. It's like a play bow. It can also be interpreted as a calming signal, albeit a pretty uncommon one. You can learn more about calming signals here:

And a smidgen more about the "play sneeze;play sneeze" here:

Lol which I could help ya. Just imagining two mini doxies saying "Time out, time out. Gotta sneeze. Okay I'm back in."

My dog sneezes when she plays too, maybe they just do it when excited.
