current events for kids magazineMy school has a magazine, how do I make it more creative?

I'm the teacher editor for our schools magazine, and it's ran by students for students.

The kids were asking me what they can do to make it more fun, and I'm really not sure. We can babble on about the media, current events, and things around the school, but the students won't care.

Besides naked pictures, what would get the students attention?
Competitions? Certain segments to get students involved?

What do you think? Thanks.
Try making a page which is interactive with the students, you can put up random questions about anything and ask students to send in their opinions and thoughts about it. Or you can make a page where students ask questions, then post the question on the page and see other students opinions. Try making icurrent events for kids magazinet creative and fun so students won't be bored about it. Maybe you could also put in some student's embarrassing moments (of course with their permission). But also try to keep it in a school magazine mode too, i mean it's not a teen fashion magazine so also put a page where the students can see whats going on in the next few days at school. Hope I helped:)
hey sounds like you've got a good plan! but remember all of the less important or plain and boring magazines do theirs each week or every year! so make it a month so you have more time to work on it and make it even better than the other ones! good luck! - Zooi Magazine

Are you planning an interactive magazine, like a weekly or monthly bulleticurrent events for kids magazinen? Or do you have something like a yearly one in mind? If you want a yearly one, you could make it really professional. Have a theme each year, and design the magazine to that theme, i.e. fairy tales, vintage, etc. And you could have sections where you ask the students random questions, and publish the most interesting responses. You could also get the students to submit stories (preferably fiction, non-fiction doesn't seem very popular) and the Editorial Board could pick out the best ones. Oh, and you could have the graduating classes design their own layouts, with each student posing in their own way, and then publish it like that. That'll be interesting! Hope my ideas helped =)
